ABA Services
Allegro School’s Clinical Team
At the core of our school program is a team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts specializing in educating learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Clinical team members apply the science of behavior analysis to meet the needs of our learners through collaboration with Classroom Teachers, Speech and Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and our Curriculum Coordinator.
Instructional strategies and ABA programming:
Allegro School utilizes positive, evidence-based instructional strategies to teach our students. Our teaching approach is highly individualized and tailored to the specific needs and preferences of each student. We utilize behaviorally-based skill assessments including the ABLLS-R, VB-MAPP, AFLS and PEAK to link applied and adaptive skill targets to grade level academic content. Instructional planning and decision making are based on detailed analysis of student performance data and facilitate real-time modification of teaching strategies and programmatic components to facilitate student learning. The techniques we select to teach our students reflect best-practices as disseminated in the behavior analytic literature.
Reduction of problem behavior:
Allegro School subscribes to a philosophy of positive programming and reduction of challenging behavior via positive behavioral supports. Clinical Team members utilize the most current, research-based functional behavioral assessment strategies, including functional analysis, to determine the precise variables maintaining a student’s behavioral challenges. Corresponding Behavior Treatment Plans detail strategies to reduce challenging behavior through teaching functionally-equivalent and prosocial replacement behaviors.
Integration of NJ Student Learning Standards and preparation for NJ’s alternate assessment:
Enabling our students to access the same educational content as their regular education peers presents many significant and unique challenges for Classroom Teachers. Clinical team members work closely with Classroom Teachers and our Curriculum Coordinator in evaluating any gaps between existing student performance levels and grade level standards, establishing the programmatic modifications necessary for students to access related educational content and prescribing the instructional strategies classroom staff use to teach it. We also install the necessary motivational supports to prepare students to participate in Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM), New Jersey’s alternate educational assessment.
Staff training and development:
While a portion of our direct teaching staff have earned certification as a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT), all partake in initial onboarding training that meets the education requirements for RBT certification during their initial 90 days of employment at Allegro School. Beyond this, Clinical Team members provide continuous staff training and support through evidence-based behavioral techniques such as Behavior Skills Training and the application of treatment fidelity checklists. We also offer internship opportunities for students in college preparation programs for education and/or behavior analysis. Finally, on a case by case basis we may offer select individuals the opportunity for supervised experience toward attainment of BCBA or BCaBA certification.
Family support and collaboration with home service providers:
Our students’ educational goals do not end with school-based programming. Home and community-based supports are vital to ensuring our students learn those skills adaptive for independent living. Toward that end, Classroom Teachers and Clinical staff provide consultation with families and home service providers through home, school or phone conferencing. This affords greater coordination of services and expanded supports for our students outside of the school environment.
Outreach Consulting Services:
Allegro School offers a range of professional behavioral consulting services to local school districts and other agencies. Services we offer include (but are not limited to) conducting Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA), training seminars on various topics within Applied Behavior Analysis, and assistance with setting up autism education programs.
